About Us
J. R. Wauford & Company, Consulting Engineers, Inc. is an environmental engineering firm with a primary focus on preliminary planning, design and construction management services for water and wastewater projects. Providing consulting services since 1956, our firm has the experience to complete a range of projects from challenging water and wastewater treatment plant designs to preliminary studies for water and sewer line extensions. J. R. Wauford & Company is owned and managed by stockholders, who are also engineers employed by the company. We have three offices which serve all of Tennessee and Western Kentucky.
We strive to provide adequately planned cost effective solutions for our clients with a personal touch. Client satisfaction is our primary goal which is proven to result in long term relationships. We currently serve over 40 municipal clients located in Kentucky and Tennessee, some of which we have served continuously for over 50 years.
Meet Our Staff
The J. R. Wauford & Company team includes a staff of professional engineers and support personnel working from our three Tennessee offices. Engineers responsible for complex environmental designs hold advanced degrees from Auburn University, Tennessee Technological University and Syracuse University. Engineers include J. Gregory Davenport, P.E. (President) with over 20 years of experience including design of new major facilities and upgrades to several treatment facilities; Kevin S. Young, P.E. (Senior Consultant) with over 35 years experience including upgrades to major wastewater treatment facilities and new major wastewater treatment facilities; Stephen C. Lee, P.E. (Vice President) with over 10 years experience; Scott Daniel, P.E. (Vice President) with over 20 years experience; and Daniel G. Tribble, P.E. (Manager of Field Services) with over 4 years experience.

During his twenty-five plus years at Wauford, Greg has advanced from Resident Observer, to obtain his P.E. license; to being Project Manager and Design Engineer; and thence promoted to Vice President of Engineering in 2001, Senior Vice President in 2007 and President of the Company in 2015. Greg received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Tennessee Technological University in 1994 and his Master of Civil Environmental Engineering from Auburn University in 2003.

During his fifteen plus years at Wauford, Stephen has advanced from Engineering Intern to Vice President while designing multiple water and wastewater projects including new and major expansions to water and wastewater treatment plants, water booster stations, raw water intakes, sewage pumping stations, gravity sewers, sewage force mains, combined sewer separation projects, and sewer rehabilitation projects. Stephen received from Tennessee Technological University both his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 2005 and his Master of Science in Civil Engineering in 2015.

Scott came to the firm with fifteen years of experience in the water and wastewater field at another firm where he had advanced to Principal over the Civil and Sanitary Departments. Scott’s related work experience in the water and wastewater field gives him a firm foundation in water treatment, storage and distribution as well as wastewater collection, pumping and treatment. Scott received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Memphis in 1995.
MANAGER OF EAST TENNESSEE OFFICE • J. R. WAUFORD & CO. • 2021 – PRESENT
Matt Rice joined J.R. Wauford & Co. after eleven years working as Director of Water & Wastewater for a multi-service utility in East Tennessee. At the Utility, Matt improved the system, reducing water loss in the distribution system and managing infiltration and inflow in the wastewater collection system. Prior to his work at the utility, he worked for another engineering firm in Asheville, North Carolina where he designed small water systems and decentralized wastewater systems for rural communities. Matt has a strong background in water distribution, pumping, and storage as well as wastewater collection and pumping. Matt received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Biosystems Engineering from the University of Tennessee in 2004 and 2006 and is a licensed professional engineer in the states of Tennessee and North Carolina.
SENIOR CONSULTANT • J. R. WAUFORD & CO. • 1981 – PRESENT
Kevin is the firm’s Senior Consultant and has been with our firm for 40 plus years during which he has designed upgrades to eight major wastewater treatment facilities along with three completely new major wastewater treatment facilities. Kevin managed our Jackson office from 1981 to 2006 and has since taught upper level civil and environmental engineering classes at Tennessee Technological University. Kevin received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Tennessee Technological University in 1978 and Master of Science in Sanitary Engineering in 1981 from Syracuse University.
MANAGER OF FIELD SERVICES • J. R. WAUFORD & CO. • 2016 – PRESENT
Daniel is transitioning into the Manager of Field Services position at Wauford which includes overseeing the resident observation services, progress payment review, change orders, and project close-out. Technical or design issues that arise during construction are coordinated between the Project Manager and the Manager of Field Services. Daniel joined Wauford after graduating Cum Laude and receiving high recommendations from a former professor and previous employers. Since his employment at Wauford, he has assisted with numerous water and wastewater projects including the preparation of plans, surveying field work, analysis of data, and other duties as assigned. Daniel has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Tennessee Technological University.
DIRECTOR OF MARKETING • J. R. WAUFORD & CO. • 2013 – PRESENT
Ashley is responsible for the company’s marketing and covers Tennessee, Kentucky, and Southern Indiana. Her previous work in grant administration highly qualifies her to identify funding sources and potential projects available to each community, both clients and prospective clients. She coordinates all company special events including the famous Ice Cream Socials. Ashley received both her Bachelor and Master of Arts from Tennessee Technological University in 2006 and 2008.
